Roman period (1st - 3rd centuries AD)
Irbid-Arbela, Jerash-Gerasa, Quwayliba-Abila, Ajlun
A revolution in glass making took place in the 1st century BC, when the blow pipe was invented on the Syrio-Palestinian coast and spread fast throughout the Roman Empire. Blowing the melted glass enabled the production of larger, thinner and cheaper vessels, which were used for drinking, transportation or in rituals. Small glass vessels were for cosmetics, perfumes, balms and precious oils; tear bottles were filled with tears and placed in tombs of loved ones.
