Fragment of a Dionysian group.
Unfinished work from the Middle to Late Imperial Period (ca. 2nd/3rd century AD), possibly from a local workshop.
White, fine crystalline marble. H 142 cm, H plinth 8,5 cm
The leaf wreath in the girl's hair suggests an interpretation as Maenad (mythical female companions of Dionysian trains) or Ariadne. Next to her on the plinth are the feet of another figure, of which part of the thigh has also been found, making her recognizable as male and identifiable as Dionysus or Silen.
An inscription on the front of the plinth names a Klaudios Daphnos, the donor of the sculpture or owner of the monument. It does not date back to the time the group was made, but was added later.
Location: Podium monument, in the exedra of the east façade.
