One of the most beautiful tours in Petra leads to the high sanctuary on the Jabal al-Madhbah, passing the so-called obelisks, and down into Wadi Farasa East.

A little off the trail - and therefore often overlooked - there is an extraordinary monument on a large rocky outcrop with a triclinium in front of it. It is the combination of an aniconical betyl and a figurative bust in a medallion, embedded in a complex niche - more on this on the next page. The second photo above shows a closer view of this ensemble.
