On top of the figure of a peacock in a grapevine medallion is the portrait of John, son of Ammonius, one of the benefactors.
According to Fr. Michelle Piccirillo it is one of the earliest portraits in Jordan (A.D. 535/36). "He was a member of the family responsible for the decoration of the church, named in a second inscription in one of the north intercolumnar spaces. He is portrayed in frontal pose with arms raised in the attitude of an orans of the Christian tradition. John is wearing a short tunic with sleeves, a chlamys fastened at the neck and decorated with a central stripe, and elegant boots."
