Convocatoria de proyectos para obras en 28 sitios específicos en el área de desarrollo urbano que tiene como objetivo convertirse en un sitio icónico de Shanghai. Cierre: 30 septiembre 2016.
jun 2016Lujiazui HARBOUR CITY is the world's most advanced redevelopment to become an iconic landmark of Shanghai, one of the most highly evolved cosmopolitan cities. In cooperation with world famous master architects and architecture firms including OMA, Kengo Kuma, KPF and BENOY, the 250,000 square kilometer district is turning into "Upscale City Complex" which contains financial institutions, commercial landmarks, an art center, luxury residence areas and five star hotels. A large-scale public art project has been launched there with the aim of bringing a new breath of life to the newly redeveloped area and creating an unparalleled urban cultural space for generations to come.
Art Reflecting the Diversity and the Contemporaneity of Our World
Ever since the opening of its port hundred and eighty years ago, Shanghai has been a major center of international trade. The city embraces its historic buildings and its ever-deepening cultural strata, which give its neighborhoods highly varied characters. Interactions with the peoples from many lands who flock to Shanghai continually deliver new energy and creativity to the city. Public Art for Lujiazui HARBOUR CITY will celebrate and disseminate those urban experiences and Shanghai's distinctive identity by inviting artists from around the world to participate in the project.
Space-Time Vessel Travelling Through the Universe is the organizing theme for Public Art for Lujiazui HARBOUR CITY. By seeding urban public spaces with works of art expressing the ideas of artists around the world, Luijiazui HARBOUR CITY will symbolically reflect the diversity and the contemporaneity of our twenty-first-century world.
15 World-Renowned Artists + 28 Emerging Artists
The project is directed by Fram Kitagawa, known for his success with the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale and Setouchi Triennale, along with 15 world-renowned twenty-first-century artists. They will be joined by 28 talented emerging artists from around the world selected through an open call for proposals.
Public art will unfold at more than 40 sites throughout the redevelopment area. The artists from around the world will be commissioned to create site-specific works in various places: on the streets, at the entrances of the buildings, the plazas, the gardens, the pond, the bridge, the facade of a building, in-between spaces and so on.
Open Call for Entries from Around the World
To introduce diverse artworks to the new city, the project is launching an international open call for proposals for 28 sites throughout the redevelopment area.
All artists, regardless of age, gender, nationality, and career are welcomed to apply. The deadline is September 30, 2016.
To select the proposals, headed by the Director Fram Kitagawa, Jean de Loisy, President of Palais de Tokyo, Andrea Schlieker, Director of Commissions and Public Projects at White Cube, and Fang Zhenning, independent curator, have been invited as judges.
The selected artists will be awarded and commissioned to create their proposed works at the sites to be completed by the end of 2017.
To promote the Open Call, on-site briefings by Fram Kitagawa will be held on July 8 and 9, and an international conference with Fram Kitagawa and Jean de Loisy will take place in Paris in the end of June.
