KENPOKU ART 2016

El norte de la Prefectura de Ibaraki, que será sede del Festival KENPOKU ART 2016 con sus seis ciudades regionales, es un lugar de contrastes fascinantes. Dotado de una gran riqueza natural, la combinación mar / montaña le confiere una atmósfera única. La vida en Ibaraki está arraigada en la cultura y sociedad tradicionales, pero la región, si bien alejada de la zona metropolitana de Tokio, está lo suficientemente cerca para percibir las últimas tecnologías y avances de la cultura.

Mirando hacia atrás sobre su historia, se aprecia la importancia de la región en la modernización del país en la época Meiji y más adelante. Hacia finales del período Edo fueron puestas en funcionamiento numerosas minas y el hallazgo de cobre en los alrededores de Hitachi también contribuyó al desarrollo de la industria. Por otro lado, Izura en Kitaibaraki es conocido como el lugar en el que se estableció el famoso defensor de la estética asiática, Tenshin Okakura, creando una comunidad artística que contribuyó decisivamente al desarrollo del arte moderno japonés.

Más recientemente, el artista Christo realizó su proyecto The Umbrellas en Hitachiota, que atrajo atención mundial por su estilo pionero de comunicación artística (conectando Ibaraki con California). Con varias Universidades en la región, incluyendo la Universidad de Tsukuba, sede de la exposición internacional Tsukuba Expo '85, la Prefectura de Ibaraki es un centro de desarrollo tanto del arte como de la ciencia y tecnología en Japón.

Programas de Arte
Internationally recognized artists will visit northern Ibaraki Prefecture to make and exhibit work such as installations, videos, sculpture and drawing at indoor and outdoor venues. The majority will be new work based on research on the nature, history, culture, industries, or other features of the region. In addition, talk sessions, workshops, and other activities related to the artworks will be held prior to and during KENPOKU ART 2016 to offer opportunities for exchange among artists and local residents, and visitor participation. These include the following:
- Large-scale installations in dialogue with the nature of the sea and mountains
- Special works at Tenshin Memorial Museum of Art, Ibaraki
- Works in various forms and styles using historic buildings, closed schools, etc.
- Media art, bio art, etc. created with cutting-edge science and technology

Programas Sociales
These programs create opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds and with different perspectives to engage in artistic expression by encouraging local residents, visitors and artists to participate and experience art. Through such interaction and communication, participants will discover the joy and meaning of free thinking and develop cultural understanding.

KENPOKU ART 2016 will build cooperative relationships with other projects by working together to advertise cultural programs and events held in northern Ibaraki Prefecture.
