Statement
Recently, I have been exploring the idea of a dystopia and dream imagery stored in my subconsciousness. Until recently, my work was inspired by childhood experiences, memories, and figments of my imagination translated into fabric sculptures. I was interested in creating an experience of a utopian world and alternative realities.
The shift in my practice happened after I had brainstormed about how my work was and where I wanted it to be. I had a dream, almost like my mind told me what I had kept away. I was trying to understand what was holding me back and pushing toward a more surreal, unfamiliar landscape. The current work is an expression of this struggle toward something new and dystopian. I always knew I would create a dystopia when I made that utopia–I thought it would be gradual, and instead, it came all at once.
