Statement
As an artist who is interested in mystical and literary traditions, I make work in the mediums of textile, paper, and video which result from repetitive and ritualistic actions. The objects and images made from my practice are charged with experimentation and the desire to define the sublime.
I am interested in creating works that are durational i.e., where time is a major component and becomes manifest in the materials themselves. I like to think of time as elastic, using stitches, words and video edits to sculpt my viewers’ attention and point their gaze to details and textures. I hope my work will bring stillness and consideration, a sense of expanding and contracting, simultaneously. Major themes in my work have included: achieving flow states through embroidery, movement, and meditation, cross-cultural analysis through bodily functions and private acts, and the reinterpretation of rituals linked to sexuality and capitalism.
Although my interests are disparate, ranging from the sacred to the profane, the intellectual to the popular, the communal to the deeply private, everything I do is inspired by the pursuit of oneness with my materials, concepts, and aesthetic values.
