This part of the old city of Sharjah has largely been reconstructed according to the original structure. With its beautiful squares and narrow alleys, the area conveys a good impression of a historical ambience in the Gulf region.
Among the well worth seeing ensembles and buildings are the Calligraphy Square with the Calligraphy Museum and other art and cultural institutions, used as temporary venues of the Sharjah Biennial and its accompanying events.
A short walk from here is the 200-years-old Souq Al Arsah, one the oldest in the UAE, located at a square where already in previous editions of the Biennial there were art works installed in the public space.
