OROCHI (Big Snake)
Site-specific origami installation
The origami artist who lives in a small village of Yasaka in Omachi City continues to introduce Japanese culture to the world. She has created a unique world by folding a flat sheet of a piece of paper: "coil folding," in which a square column is twisted and woven into a coil; "unit folding," in which parts are put together; and "infinite folding," in which the same shape is repeated infinitely. When the "coil folding” technique used in this work was completed, the twisting and depressing appearance reminded her of a "big snake." She felt the presence of something symbolic like a primitive life form. This is a unique world of origami expressing the mysteries hidden in nature.
