This work examines the allegorical relationship between Ranunculus arvensis (buttercup) seeds and women depicted in artwork as a representation of the land, as this relation reinforces our identity as Palestinians and our bond with the land and its treasures.
Dealing with the Ranunculus arvensis seed was not easy, especially because, for 32 years, I never realised that it constituted part of my identity until it was incorporated into a project that enhanced my Palestinian-ness. Unfortunately, I realised this during the summer, when there are no Ranunculus arvensis flowers. Then they reappeared in the spring and I engaged with them electronically and visually, void of any flavour, smell or contact. At first, I tried to fictionalise the encounter. I made several experiments that missed the goal until I went back to the first draft, which was the closest to me because of its simplicity. This draft was transformed into a wall painting foundationed in the sound wall depicting a woman replacing her guts with the Ranunculus arvensis in all its phases—from a seed, until its roots extend into the ground and then it blooms.
