The Flowers Fair. 2015
Action
Guided tour by young women and girls, talking about their own traumatized experiences while explaining what they see in some of the paintings by Fernando Botero in the collection of the Museo de Antioquia. On the photo, Núria Güell with the girls.
For MDE15 Güell is focusing on one of the most troubling issues she encountered during her research in Medellin: child sexual exploitation, a contemporary form of slavery a substantial part of the flourishing sex tourist industry of Medellin. By using the symbolical power of an art institution, Güell exposes the problem and confronts the social acceptance of such phenomenon. Through artifacts and performance the work reveals the deep structural nature of the phenomenon, pointing to the fact that all of us, politicians, cultural workers and citizens, through our actions or non-actions, are responsible for and participants in this crime.
