Bowling for Medellín #1. 2015
Drawing, 620 x 210 cm
Camilo Restrepo grew up during the most violent time in Medellín. In this work he recalls the Acuario bowling alley, an iconic place in the city where the hitmen at the time used to gather. According to Restrepo, the Acuario bowling alley is an excuse to explore and exhibit how false and unsuccessful the war against drugs has been. In his work, there are not only images or memories from that time, but also more recent images coming from the news media. We can see that some of the actors and methods related to the conflict have changed, but the effects remain the same or worse. This artist reminds us that, although the way in which power is implemented and hidden is more sophisticated today, terror can still be observed albeit in more diffuse forms.
