For the 2010 edition of FotoGrafia – Rome International Festival on September 24 – October 24, the Italo-Latin American Institute (IILA) and Zone Attive, with a contribution from the Cultural Centre of the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), are organizing the third annual exhibition for photographers from the Latin American countries belonging to IILA (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela). The event is an important sign of the consolidation of cooperation over the years and the concrete expression of a partnership representing an important bridge between Italy and Latin American photography. Participation in the exhibition is obtained by winning selection in a competition open only to photographers less than 35 years old (born on or after January 1, 1975) from one of IILA’s member countries. The theme for the competition is the one chosen for the next edition of FotoGrafia – Rome International Festival 2010: “Nature, as it relates to the metropolis”, an exploration of its value and the tension that develops around it in large cities.
How to participate:
Would-be participants must submit their project on the theme, “Nature as it relates to the metropolis”, with the following documentation (paper and digital as appropriate):
- Presentation and description of the project (maximum one page)
- A selection of at least 15 photographs (high resolution in digital form – min. 300 dpi, short side 15 cm).
The material must arrive
no later than May 31, 2010 at:
IILA – Segreteria Culturale
Palazzo Santa Croce
Piazza Benedetto Cairoli, 3
00186 Roma Italia
Identified as: “Premio IILA - FotoGrafia, 3° edizione: la NATURA”.
Any material submitted will not be returned. Participation in the competition is free and without charge.
A selection of the best work will be exhibited at IILA in a show to be inaugurated n September 24 on the occasion of the 2010 edition of FotoGrafia and, subsequently, at the Cultural Centre of the IDB in Washington. The names of the participants admitted to the exhibition will be announced in due time. The overall winner will be chosen from among those who win admission to the exhibition and will receive: a return ticket to Rome in economy class; a bursary of €1,500; a stay of a month starting September 20 at IILA’s guest-quarters in central Rome for the opening of FotoGrafia. During the stay, the winner will develop a photographic project on Rome, assisted by an editor named by Marco Delogu, the festival’s artistic director. The project will be on show at the 2011 edition of the festival.
The works will chosen for the exhibition by a three-member jury of representatives of the world of international photography including one from the IDB (Inter- American Development Bank), chaired by Patricia Rivadeneira, IILA’s cultural secretary, and Marco Delogu, the festival’s artistic director. The criteria for choosing the works will include relevance to the proposed theme, quality, organic unity and feasibility.
