Ausschreibung: Künstler aus dem Nahen / Mittleren Osten, Nordafrika, Südasien - Deadline: 31. August 2015. Kuratoren aus der ganzen Welt: bis 31. Juli 2015.
Jun 2015The Abraaj Group Art Prize was founded in 2008 and is now in its eighth edition. The aim of the prize is to empower potential and give often under-represented contemporary artists the resources to further develop their talent. Following the application and jury process, four artists are shortlisted for the prize and one (of the four) artists awarded the $100,000 commission. The three shortlisted artists receive a cash prize and are represented in a group exhibition at Art Dubai (March 16-19, 2016) through previous works, which will be carefully selected by the guest curator in liaison with the artist. The prize reflects Abraaj's own investment philosophy, which is to take viable businesses with great potential, and create regional and global champions. To date, the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 works were presented at Art Dubai and artworks then gone on loan to exhibitions at Biennale de Montreal, Montreal; Boshossian Foundation, Brussels; Villa Arson, Nice; Wien Kunsthalle, Vienna; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art, Hangzhou; Tensta Konstall, Stockholm; Kochi-Muziris Bienniale, Kochi; Parasol Unit, London; Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah; among other venues.
Artists from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia born, living and working in the region or with some part of their artistic career based in MENASA are invited to apply with a proposal for an as yet unrealised project, which is able to be created in advance of Art Dubai 2016. Time spent within the region during the production period is preferred, as is an engagement with the region. Proposals cannot be part of an ongoing series, nor be shown in public in advance of the official unveiling. The winning work will go on to form part of The Abraaj Group Art Collection, and need to be of a size and form suitable to be stored and shipped easily. Neither ephemeral works with a short lifespan are encouraged. Applications are only accepted by individual artists.
Curators are invited to apply for the position of Guest Curator of the Abraaj Group Art Prize. The winning curator will work directly with the artists; selecting significant works that best represent the three shortlisted artists, and with the commissioned artist on the development and production of their new work, which together will culminate in an exhibition during Art Dubai 2016. The curator will also be responsible for editing and providing content for the supporting catalogue or e-publication. Curators can originate from any country in the world and be based anywhere (but should be free to travel to Dubai for Art Dubai 2016 in March). Applicants are expected to have quantifiable experience in the field of curating on an international level, and have an active interest in the development of artistic practice in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
