Antoin Sevruguin
Interior in Golestān Palace, ca. 1890.
Modern gelatin silver print from glass photonegative.
In this remarkable photo Sevruguin seems to transpose part of Diego Velázquez famous painting Las Meninas (1656) onto 19th century Iran. In a way, it summarizes Iran’s complex relationship with modernity.
