Round and square towers (burj and murabbah) used to be located at strategic positions outside of the towns. While rectangular murabbah, provided shelter for villagers, round burj were solely look-outs: If a raiding party from the desert was spotted, then warning shots were fired from top.
The Historical Tower of Khor Fakkan is located on a hill adjacent to the road that leads to the container port. It overlooks the whole bay, offering phantastic views of the port area, the traditional Al Sharq neighborhood close to it, the historical heart in process of recontruction, the green oases of farms within the city, as well as the growing modern areas in the Southern part of Khor Fakkan.
