Organized since 2006, first by the National Arts Council, later on by the Singapore Art Museum, the Singapore Biennale is conceived as a platform for exchange, dialogue and presentation of contemporary art practices. It aims to position Singapore as an international centre of visual arts.
Through the invitation of artists from other countries and collaborations with the global arts community, it encourages Singapore artists, art specialists and audiences to engage with the international art world. Encompassing a conglomeration of multi-venue visual arts exhibitions, performances, workshops, and events, the Biennale provides new opportunities for local visual artists and arts businesses, and builds up new audiences and participation across ages and demographics.
