Watercolors on paper (right) and chinese ink on paper, 1997 - 2012
Haloi’s artistic practise which blurs the genre of landscape painting in order to express the dynamic relations between human civilization, land use, and the modernist project of archaeology. The artist’s early memories of famine, rural-urban migration, and historical events as the Partition & Bangladesh War of Liberation, also the history of relocation that continues in present climes.
Haloi’s abstract paintings and rarely-seen ink and pen drawings on view during the 8th Berlin Biennale, portray a reading of territory as emotional cartography and sublime force and express a unique perspective with 'aviddha' or a freedom from the confines of existing traditions.
