Labor in a Single Shot. 2012 – 2013
Video, 15 chapters, 19:68 min. total
Labor in a Single Shot introduces us to the world of labour in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. While work is a routine daily activity, there is invisible or unimaginable work, paid and unpaid, material and immaterial, traditional or entirely new. Harun Farocki and Antje Ehmann (Germany/Brazil) convened a group of young audiovisual artists in a workshop, in order to explore the different trades that are carried out in the city and create videos in the manner of the early films, using a single, fixed camera shot, or following a single, unedited movement. The shots capture the beauty of the work choreography, while revealing the repetitive aspect of all labour.
