Jorge Díez
* 1954 Madrid, Spain; lives there.

Independent curator and cultural manager. Graduate in Philosophy and Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Director of the international program of public art of Madrid Abierto and co-director of Companies and Cultural Institutions of the Santillana/Salamanca University. He was general director of Cultural Promotion of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (2004-2005), chief of Cultural Services and director of the Sala Amadís of the Instituto de la Juventud (Injuve, 1997-2004), and executive advisor at the cabinets of the Ministers of Culture Carmen Alborch (1993-1996) and Jordi Solé Tura (1992-1993).

In 2007, he was curator, together with José Roca of the proyect Cart[ajena] , organized by SEACEX (Sociedad Estatal para la Acción Cultural en el Exterior) in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

Currently, he is the curator of the series Los 24 escalones for the Espai 13 of the Fundación Joan Miró in Barcelona, and the exhibition of comics Viaje con nosotros, which is touring through Latin America after its inauguration at La Casa Encendida in Madrid.


José Roca
* 1962 Barranquilla, Colombia.
Lives in Bogotá, Colombia.

Independent curator. For a decade, he was in charge of the art program of the Banco de la República in Bogotá, Colombia, establishing it as one of the most respected art institutions in Latin America. Among his recent curatorial projects are: Muntadas: Mecanismos de la imagen, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil, and Bronx Museum, New York (2011); Óscar Muñoz: Immemorial, Korea Foundation, Seoul, Korea (2008), and Herzliya Museum, Israel (2009); Otras Floras, Galería Nara Roesler, São Paulo, Brazil (2008); Phantasmagoria: Specters of Absence, touring exhibition co-organized by Independent Curators International and the Museo de Arte del Banco de la República (2007-2009); Miguel Ángel Rojas: Objetivo Subjetivo, Museo de Arte del Banco de la República (2007-2008); Regina Silveira: Sombra Luminosa, Museo de Arte del Banco de la República (2007); Botánica Política, Sala Montcada/La Caixa, Barcelona (2004); Traces of Friday: art, tourism, displacement, ICA, Philadelphia (2003).

Roca was co-curator of the 1st Trienal Poli/gráfica de San Juan, Puerto Rico (2004); the 27th São Paulo Biennal, Brazil (2006); the Encuentro de Medellín MDE07 (2007); and of the project Cart[ajena] , together with Jorge Díez in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia (2007). He was jury member of the 52nd Venice Biennial (2007).

Currently Artistic Director of Philagrafika 2010, an international festival of print in contemporary art in Philadelphia, USA.


Guest curator

Paulina Varas
* 1975 Valparaíso, Chile; lives there.

Chilean researcher and curator. Graduated in Art from the Universidad de Playa Ancha, Valparaíso, and PhD Candidate in Art History and Theory at the Universidad de Barcelona, Spain. Co-director of the Centro de Residencias para Artistas Contemporáneos in Valparaíso. Member of the network Red de Conceptualismos del Sur.

Curator of Cierto tipo de poética política, Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes en Valparaíso (2008), and Aproximaciones a una poética política in the framework of the VI Bienal de Arte del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Santiago (2008), and co-curator of Subversive Practices, Art under conditions of political repression, 60s-80s South America-Europe, Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart, Germany (2009).

She has written about art from Chilea and Latin America in several international publications. Recently, she has published the book Muntadas en Latinoamérica, edited by the Universidad de Caldas, Colombia.
