About this venue

The Sharjah Calligraphy Museum was opened in 2002 in the building of the house of Hamad Al Midfaa at the Calligraphy Square. Works on canvas, wood, paper and ceramics, created by local artists and well-known international calligraphers, demonstrate the complexity of this art form and its historical foundations.

Besides of works from the permanent collection and the techniques of calligraphy, the museum presents changing exhibitions. Every two years the museum is one of the venues of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, organized by the Directorate of Arts, Department of Culture & Information, Government of Sharjah.

The Sharjah Calligraphy Museum also organizes workshops and conferences. In the adjacent building there are studios of calligraphers.
