Al Mureijah houses & Sharjah Creek

This sector of the historic city of Sharjah is being reconstructed following the original urban structure. Several old buildings are already restored or were rebuilt on the wall remains. In other cases, only the external walls are reconstructed until now. Also these spaces are used as venues for the Sharjah Biennial. The whole area conveys a good impression of an old city ambience in the Gulf region.

The Japanese artist Shimabuku invites the Biennial audience to cross the Sharjah Creek on the traditional boats and to meet workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and elsewhere.
