The Trankat residency artists' exhibition takes the Medina of Tétouan as its starting point. 14 Feb. - 19 April 2015, La Friche La Belle de Mai, Marseille
Feb 2015Designed in partnership with Sextant et plus, the "Trankat" exhibition at La Friche Belle de Mai, Marseille, takes as its starting point the Medina of Tétouan: a unique zone that shelters the splendour of the regional arts and crafts.
The medina of Tétouan is a maze consisting in an entanglement of houses, mysterious alleys and dead end. It is a city without architect that challenges the notions of private and public spheres and usual mapping methods.
The artworks which have been specifically produced for the Trankat exhibition make a total break with the common clichés of "palm trees, desert and belly dancing". Made in Tétouan, these are now shown for the first time in Marseille. They underline the original meaning of "Tétouan" or "Titawin" which translates as a spring: the strength, wealth and beauty of multifaceted creativity drawn from the heart of this city is revealed.
