Istanbul-Off-Spaces exhibition and event in Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin, is meant to draw attention to a phenomenon that has arisen in recent years: the increasing number and growing influence of project groups and independent non-commercial art spaces in Istanbul.
In Istanbul, art project spaces act as important locations for social discourse and discussions about civil society. As a result of increasing internationalization, but also as a consequence of growing independence and burgeoning self-awareness, locations, publishers, magazines and players in the field of contemporary visual arts have established themselves as outstanding elements of social and political discourse.
The activities in Berlin are aimed at initiating a dialogue between these projects and their protagonists offering a presentation platform in Berlin.
