The major focus of the project Museum of American Art (MoAA), which opened in Berlin in 2004, is on travelling exhibitions of American modern art organized by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) during the Cold War.
"The theme of this particular collection refers to a touring exhibition organized by MoMA New York, which arrived in the Yugoslav capital Belgrade in 1956. (…) Underlying the highly political aspects of a seemingly neutral project of Western modernism, Museum of American Art argues for more complex readings of the wider front of the Cold War cultural epoch."
