As one of the 14 colleges at the University of Sharjah, the College of Fine Arts and Design,
inaugurated in 2002, offers bachelor’s degree programs in its four fully accredited programs:
After foundation level studio courses, the program introduces the students to the main areas of contemporary fine art practice: painting, printmaking, sculpture, Installation, photography and time-based and digital media. Students are expected to develop their ideas and their creative strategies in one or more of these areas of practice. Studio courses, at all levels, are contextualized by lecture-based courses and other studio courses that address historical, theoretical and critical issues.
The Fine Art Program is designed to produce graduates who are multi-skilled practitioners, independent learners and creative thinkers. They are equipped for a range of career opportunities in the visual arts and the creative industries, including self employment in professional practice, employment in museums, galleries and art organizations, positions in areas which use new technology, digital imaging, multi-media, illustration and special effects.
Graphic Design and Multimedia
The program incorporates a broad range of practices, such as visual communication, typography, print and digital media, web design (design for books, magazines and exhibitions, packaging, branding, corporate identity and interface design), and the design of multimedia (motion graphics and interactive design, television graphics and moving images).
Interior Architecture and Design
Study is based on the practical application of interior and architectural design concepts. Through a series of design projects, students will learn to coordinate the elements that create a well- designed interior space, and which afford the opportunity to study structure, form, space, materials and textures, furniture, colour & lighting. Technology for design, alongside a philosophical, theoretical and historical appreciation of design and architecture, underpins and provides context for practical studio based projects.
The programme emphasizes fashion design with fashion textiles as a complementary component. Using innovative design processes, and print production techniques, together with a critical appreciation of the historic, social and cultural context of fashion and textiles, the program equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to develop into innovative professional fashion designers.
