Christel: For Mara (7.12.1942)

Info / context to the poem

The mental torments include a strong moral fatigue, difficult to put into clinical terms, feelings of insatiable grief, discouragement, loneliness, depression and apathy. In addition, there is a strong sense of emptiness associated with the meaninglessness of the time spent in the camp. The emptiness also refers to suffering from isolation and a lack of love, and being frozen in one's emotionality.

Many poems discuss and praise the special abilities of significant women prisoners in the camp. For example, several congratulatory poems to Mara Čepič, a Slovenian prisoner who was revered by many women, have been handed down.
