Detail of exhibition panel
St Joseph Hospital, 34 Komvest, Bruges
A good example of the evolution of Hoste's architecture. This hospital, designed in 1909, was entirely in the neo-gothic style of his teacher Louis Cloquet. Ten years later, in 1920, he added an extension in the cubist style that took him decisively in the direction of modernism.
Church of Our Lady, Zonnebeke
As an architect during the postwar reconstruction, in 1921 Hoste built the first modern Belgian church in Zonnebeke, with a cubist design constructed in reinforced concrete.
De Beir house or 'Black House', 8 Dumortierlaan, Knokke
In 1924 Hoste built one of the earliest masterpieces of Modernism. By cladding the ground floor in fired tiles he made a visual distinction between the service areas and the actual home.
