Arrest of a Plant. 2020
Palestinian wild fennel
Paravan: four pieces, 2 x 2 metres
Acrylic on wood
I made this painting on a surface that was unusual for me, a movable paravan, or divider, consisting of four parts. I tied the wild fennel seeds with the other seeds similarly doomed to annihilation. I added another symbol, the Palestinian woman representing homeland and identity. Those seeds were reformed into human heads protesting the unfair verdict.
The fabric of the painting, with its bright colours, reflects my attempt to search for aesthetic and artistic value in the harmonious and balanced Palestinian natural landscape, which the occupier cannot comprehend, but which only the Indigenous people understand and feel.
