Alternative Space: A Respite from Hopelessness
Installation
What does it mean to have a myriad of plants or a landscape painting within the confines of your salon?
This installation examines the boundaries of nature and of what represents nature in the salon, such as floral decorations on ceramic pots, vases of flowers, and pots of live and plastic plants as ornaments in the closed salon. These plants, which are taking up increasing space in our salons, are considered pure expressions of our rather weak relation with the natural landscape, that creates a haven for us and brings us a sense of relief.
Our interest in obtaining plants and installing them in the salon is always increasing; as if we are building an alternative space for what we may have lost, such as the people we lost long ago, or the natural places that we can no longer reach.
