Austin Camilleri

Born in 1972, Austin Camilleri lives in Gozo and works between Malta, Italy and Belgium.

Austin Camilleri works simultaneously and non-hierarchically in installation, painting, drawing, video and sculpture. He studied at the University of Malta and at the Accademia Pietro Vannucci in Perugia. He is the founder of 356, founding member of StArt, Fundazzjoni Klula and Istra, and is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malta. He is also a curator and designed books, campaigns, awards as well as stage sets for operas, theatre and dance pieces.

His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Mediterranean Biennale, Artraker Biennale and the Biennale for Young Artists and in shows at Bozar, the Musée Botanique and the Centrale Electrique, European Centre for Contemporary Arts in Brussels, Belgium; at Kalmar Konstmuseum In Sweden; the Henderson Centre in Beijing, China; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cluj-Napoca, Romania; Apollonia in Strasbourg, Foundation Villa Datris in L’Isle sur-la-Sorgue, France; Palais Liechtenstein in Feldkirch, Austria; the Vatican Museum and Museo Archeologico complex, Lipari; Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland; Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo, Guatemala City, Guatemala; in Grote Kerk and NEST in the Hague, The Netherlands; Chiesa Santa Chiara, Republic of San Marino; at Beit Shemesh, Jerusalem, Israel; at Palais Kheïreddine in Tunis, Tunisia; at the München Künstlerhaus in Munich and Kulturzentrum in Konstanz, Germany; at the Visual Art Gallery, New Delhi, India; the National Museum of Fine Arts, Maritime Museum, Museum of Archaeology and MCA in Malta.
