Ismail Fatah Al-Turk
Born 1934, Basra, Iraq
Died 2004, Baghdad, Iraq
Often blurring the lines between abstraction and representation, Fattah’s artwork presents a dilemma between figuration and its negation. In his Untitled 1965 sculpture, Fattah depicts limb-like supports for a rectangular core, obscuring any decisive representation. Rendering the inexpressible qualities of human consciousness through sculpture and paint, Ismail Fattah blends form with intangible ideas of human consciousness.
