Activated for the Biennial, is the newly restored palace with a swimming pool and adjacent date palm orchard. It was built in the early twentieth century by Sheikh Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi and was completed in the 1960s by his successor Sheikh Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah from 1965–1972. Prior to its renovation by the Foundation, the palace served as accommodation for personnel working at the Al Dhaid Clinic.
Situated on the desert plain to the east of coastal Sharjah, Al Dhaid is an oasis town at the centre of the emirate’s hinterland that served as an important caravan crossroads in the past. Sustained by underground aquifers, seasonal wadis and mountain streams, the area is known today as an agricultural hub.
