Calligraphy Square

At the centre of Sharjah’s heritage district, Calligraphy Square’s ensemble of institutions provide active community spaces for preserving the culture of Sharjah and the broader Gulf region, from calligraphy and craft to theatre and architecture. The distinctive character of the area stems from its historical identity as a mixed-used neighbourhood, with residential houses interconnecting with notable souqs, including Souq Al Arsah and Souq Saqr. The cultural centres of Calligraphy Square have long been part of the Biennial’s fabric, serving as gathering spaces and performance sites.
