Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj Act 1 in Beirut

Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) presents, together with Ashkal Alwan, the Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts, as one of the interlocutors of Sharjah Biennial 13, the fourth and final SB13 off-site project, Upon a Shifting Plate, as well as the concluding SB13 Act II program.
SB13 Act II, program 14 - 22 Oct.

14 October - 31 December 2017
Curator: Reem Fadda

What are the aesthetic methodologies that can take shape out of our collective state of falling in and out of sleep? Could artistic practice take flight from poesies and the contemplative into something socially effective? This exhibition picks up on the thread of dormancy, looking at sleep as an act of neither the singular or collective mind, but rather of a social body carefully plotting action in the face of failed revolutionary attempts. Artists delve into the imaginative to harness the aesthetic, responding through their practice to urgencies and needs of the social.

Rather than asking for solutions and sketching utopias, An unpredictable expression of human potential seeks to address the current moment of disenfranchisement and frustration, pondering whether the young generation holds the vitality needed to upturn the socio-political legacies of modernity.
