Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) announces the open call for correspondents for the eighth annual March Meeting, taking place later this year, from May 11 - 16, 2015.
March Meeting 2015 (MM 2015) is part of an extended conversation that began last year with March Meeting 2014: Come Together and continues through Sharjah Biennial 12: The past, the present, the possible (SB12), on view through June 5, 2015.
For this edition, SB12 curator Eungie Joo has invited Kristine Khouri and Rasha Salti and Eric Baudelaire to conceptualise different sections of MM 2015 as integral parts of their contributions to SB12, which will include panel discussions, keynote addresses, talks and screenings pertaining to the respective programmes' conceptual concerns.
On May 11, Khouri and Salti will organise three sessions, including a presentation on their ongoing research on the International Art Exhibition for Palestine (1978) , based on interviews with artists, filmmakers and journalists associated with this project, as well as a keynote address by the scholar W.J.T. Mitchell.
Eric Baudelaire's Sharjah Sessions are part of his contribution to SB12, Secession Sessions, which considers the question of statehood through the prism of the stateless state of Abkhazia. In addition to the Anembassy of Abkhazia staffed by Maxim Gvinjia, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and daily screenings of the feature length film, Letters to Max, this discursive programme includes sessions with artists and scholars and will take place May 12-13.
From May 14-16, Joo continues the discussion through a series of presentations, conversations and screenings which are still under development.
During these days, time will be allocated to visit Biennial venues.
SAF welcomes applications to potential correspondents for MM 2015. Interested applicants should present a proposal that outlines a written or image-based response to the March Meeting as related to their existing research or practice. Applications are welcome from artists, writers and researchers working on topics related to SB12 and MM 2015 and wish to contribute in one of the following forms:
- Article, fictional narrative or essay, of 1500-3000 words
- Image-based contributions in the form of a photo essay or edited video
Deadline: 4 March 2015
Selected correspondents are expected to attend all sessions of MM 2015, and must submit their finalised contributions within 30 days of the conclusion of MM 2015.
A total of five correspondents will be selected.
Sharjah Art Foundation will cover travel and accommodation expenses in Sharjah for the duration of MM 2015, as well as provide a modest per diem.
