According to ancient Chinese tradition, a colorful fish in shimmering water is the bearer of luck, wealth, prosperity, fertility and offspring. Only seemingly, according to Thea Herold, Wang Fu's trusting fish give us a realistic disguise for the underlying idea that luck is as fluid as water, just flowing around everything it touches.
