This class is for refugees who had planned to start studying art or design in their home countries, already started such a degree program, or who plan to switch into such a degree program. This course, planned for one or two semesters, will provide the foundations for applying at a German art academy. It offers the possibility to reconstruct lost documents and materials on previous qualifications, which have to be included with applications.
Withing Weißensee Academy of Art, the course is organized by the department of Artistic Foundations and will be directed by professor Ulf Aminde. Participating refugees will be able to use the academy’s infrastructure, acquire institutional knowledge together with other students, and in this way prepare for a degree program. At the office for student affairs, a designated staff member will counsel students on questions about degree programs as well as on social issues. Participants will have the status of visiting students, and will not have to pay any fees.
The *foundationClass will be financed by the Berlin Senator for Education, Youth, and Science, as part of the Berlin Quality Campaign in Teaching.
