Oct 2015Ashkal Alwan has released the information about the curators, participants, and program of Home Works 7, a multidisciplinary forum on cultural practices which takes place every 2–3 years in Beirut.
Curated by Frie Leysen, Bassam El Baroni and Christine Tohmé, the 7th edition of the forum will include exhibitions, lectures, screenings, publications and performances.

About the curators:
Frie Leysen was the founding director of deSingel in Antwerp. In 1994, she founded the bilingual Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels which she directed for 10 years. Later in 2007, Leysen organized the multidisciplinary Meeting Points festival in nine Arab cities. In 2010, she was curator of Theater der Welt in the German Ruhr area and in 2012, held the position of artistic director of the Berliner Festspiele. In 2014-2015 she was theatre director of the Vienna Festival in Austria. In 2003, Leysen was awarded the Flemish Community Award for General Cultural Contributions and in 2007, she received an honorary doctorate from the Free University of Brussels. In 2014, she was awarded the Erasmus Prize by the Dutch king Willem-Alexander.
Bassam El Baroni is an independent curator and a professor of theory at the Dutch Art Institute, Arnhem. He has curated and co-curated projects and exhibitions in Murcia (Manifesta 8, 2010), Madrid, Oslo, Bergen, Lofoten (Lofoten International Art Festival, 2013), Limerick (Eva International – Ireland’s Biennial, 2014), Paris, and Alexandria. He was co-founder and director of the now discontinued art space Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum (2005 – 2012).
Christine Tohmé is the founding Director of Ashkal Alwan, the Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts, established in 1993. Tohmé was the recipient of a Prince Claus Award in 2006, given in recognition of her achievements in supporting local multidisciplinary art production and art criticism, as well as the 2015 CCS Bard Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence. She is on the boards of Marsa (Beirut), a sexual health center providing specialized medical services for at-risk youth and marginalized communities, and SAHA (Istanbul), an association supporting contemporary art from Turkey. The seventh edition of Home Works opens on November 12, 2015. Tohmé was recently appointed curator of the Sharjah Biennale 2017.
