Mourning
A 1940s black and white lithograph depicts four female figures dressed in black cloaks. One figure marches forward with her hands folded above her head. Others follow closely behind with their bodies bent over and their eyes fixed on the ground. Two of them point upwards with one hand while the other hand pulls at their cloaks to cover their heads and faces. The ground is stark black. The sky is lighter with crosshatching marks. In the background are mountains, clouds with rays of sun shining through, and more figures with arms stretched towards the sky. Human features are stylized. Forms are abstract and shapes are geometric. The lithograph measures 12 x 12 cm with a 1 cm paper border on all four sides.
