Architect Youssef Tohme, who rehabilitated the 2,000-square-meter space in a former furniture factory, used the same cement tiles for the floors as those that are used for pavements in Beirut, creating a link between the space and the street. The open studio area, which can be partitioned with sliding panels into smaller work stations for the students, can also be used for exhibitions and public presentations, such as Sophie Calle's artist talk, which was held there on December 1, 2011, as part of a reception by the Hasselblad Foundation honoring the artist Walid Raad.
