Patricia Bentancur is a researcher on Ibero-American art and a curator of contemporary art. She has edited over a hundred books on Ibero-American contemporary art. She is co-curator of Uruguay’s pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennial (2009), ‘Felix Gonzalez Torres’ (2003); and curator of monographic exhibitions such as ‘The Ethics of Lansdscape/Yamandu Canosa’ (2008), ‘Art, Dishonour and Violence’ (2007), ‘Films, Texts & Documents/Clemente Padin’ (2006), ‘Gender Issues in Latin America’ (2005), and the travelling exhibition ‘Antoni Muntadas’ (1999 – 2000), among many others.
As Director of Visual Arts and New Media at the CCE/Spanish Cultural Centre in Montevideo, she leads the Critical Studies and Curatorial Program, the Sound and Performance Research Program, and the Audiovisual Resources Centre (CRA/CCE), a permanent space for applied technology interventions and cross-sectional visual arts programs, which include research, training and exhibitions as tools for development.
