Garrucha (Pulley). 2014-2015
Videoinstallation: Photography, drawings, objects and video
The complexities of subjectivity comprise the work of Palacios: the existential pressures of twin sisters (her own case) or those of specific social groups such as girl boxers or soldiers. This time, the traveler, who slides fastly as a minute point between two mountains, is a contemporary Latin American subject, half peasant, half urbanite, who knows the city but is a stranger in it. He lives in rural areas where he uses the rudimentary precarious cable car (tarabita or garrucha), to transport people and merchandise to the roads leading to the city, because it is there where the subsistence cycle ends. Perhaps that farmer knows the version of the cable that is offered as a tourist attraction or urban entertainment on the terraces of a shopping center.
