Presented at the 8th Instanbul Biennial, 20 September - 16 November 2003
The quarter is characterized by hardware stores and small ironmongery businesses. After quitting time and on Sundays they are closed, and the streets are nearly empty. Doris Salcedo saw "legacies of a violent past where Jews and Greeks were forced out of their buildings, these buildings." Her work is about a process of displacement that took place for over fifty years.
