Geumhyung Jeong
Fitness Guide. 2011
Installation and video
Dimensions variable
Jeong stages self-sufficient, narcissistic sexual psychodrama, by personifying fitness equipment, such as running machines and massage belts, as surrogate sexual partners. For her, exercise is a metaphor for desire and physical training to discipline her desire, reminding of the early practice of Matthew Barney. Through the extreme and mutational sexual fantasy of exercising quasi-sexual activities with fitness equipment, Jeong develops the politics of sex into the politics of the body. (Kim Hong-Hee)
