Where has the river gone? 2000
This 3.5 kilometer long installation recreates the long-ago course of the Shinano River with some 600 yellow flags. The river, which used to describe a serpentine course, has been transformed by dams and the paving of its banks with concrete, sharply affecting the volume of water it carries and the ecosystems it now supports.
Yukihisa Isobe, artist and regional planner, has contributed as the ideological backbone for Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. In addition to the establishment of “Yukihisa Isobe memorial Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum of Art [SOKO] and a new work, three of his past works (2000, 2003, 2015) have been reproduced this time.
