In cooperation with documenta fifteen, members of the Kassel group of the BDA - Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten - have created eight different Reflecting Points: temporary structures for resting, reflection and coming together. Here are two of them at the Aueteich in the Karlsaue park:

Reflecting Point 4: Maria
Architects Christoph Hesse & Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann:
The Reflecting Point Maria defines an open place of fellowship, remembrance, and reflection. In 1896, a young girl, my great-grandmother Maria (CH), planted this spruce tree in her native Sauerland. Hence the tree's name, Maria. Sadly, it died of thirst last year due to climate change. The tree Marie lived to the age of 125.

Reflecting Point 5: Kollektiv
Architects Christoph Hesse & Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann:
The Reflecting Point Kollektiv is made of piled wooden fences. These are used to protect young trees in mixed woodland. When erected, these 750 metres would be able to protect 5.000 young trees from bite damages whilst growing. After seven to eight years the tips of the trees are higher than the wild animals. The wooden fences, which having done their duty, decompose to humus.
