documenta 14 in Kassel
10 June - 17 September 2017
Artistic Director: Adam Szymczyk
Approx. 250 participants
The Museum for Sepulchral Culture is unique in Germany and was opened in Kassel in 1992. It aims to illustrate continuity and change in dealing with the “last things” and to restore awareness for the experience of death, which has often been suppressed in society.
The permanent exhibition shows cultural, historical and contemporary testimonies to the culture of burial, cemeteries and grief in the German-speaking world from the Middle Ages to the present day. The temporary special exhibitions focus on individual aspects of cultural history, or also deal with current topics.
