documenta 14 in Kassel
10 June - 17 September 2017
Artistic Director: Adam Szymczyk
Approx. 250 participants
Erected in 1603-06 as the first theater in Germany, the Ottoneum has been used over the centuries as a military chapel, a cannon foundry, the home to the landgrave's art collection, an observatory, and anatomical theater.
Since 1885 it has housed the Natural History Collection. During the allied bombings of 1943 the roof and second storey were destroyed. It was rebuilt without a cupola and in 1954 reopened as the Museum of Natural History.
